About us

About us

Duralloy Gears has accumulated over 65 years trading experience. The company offers its customers tailored repair solutions and options that best suit their needs and expectations.

Duralloy can either repair damaged components or manufacture new parts from scratch. The factory is equipped with a very diverse range of gear cutting and grinding machinery. We have a selection of gear shaping machines including both rack and disc shaping right through to gear milling/hobbing, with the ability to achieve tangential worm wheel cutting. We also have manual lathe and milling capabilities along with being able to broach keyways.

Along with the wide range of manual machines we have on the floor, we are now able to offer EDM services for both wire cutting and spark eroding, enabling us to produce a very broad range of tapered splines, internal keyways and much more. Duralloy has a firm loyal customer base, gained by their prompt attention to client’s requirements, utilising quality control systems to guarantee consistent results.

Our Story

Overseeing operations at Duralloy Gears is Phil Jones, son of the company’s founder, Mr John Jones (Senior). Mr Jones (Senior) manually started making pinions for railway road service buses in the second world war, that serviced Christchurch to Dunedin. While stepping back from day-to-day management Phil continues to provide the Duralloy team with the benefit of his knowledge, particularly when it comes to gearing for old tractors, trucks, vintage cars and one off challenges.

Our People

Manager Hayden Neale has been part of the team for over 20 years. He now oversees the day-to-day management at Duralloy Gears along with wife Nikki who joined Duralloy in 2022. “Our bread and butter is cutting gears,” says Manager Hayden Neale. “But we can do so much more than just cutting gears. When a client presents you with a problem, our experienced team will analyse and discuss a viable option. We can manufacture new componentry, including sourcing and supplying bearings, seals, and new gearboxes at very competitive prices”.

Our current workshop team consists of long-serving fully qualified mechanical engineers, who have all done their trade at Duralloy Gears, as well as a qualified mechanical engineer from Canada and an apprentice in training. Over the years we have embraced tradespeople from England, Fiji and South Africa who have all added to the knowledge and experience at Duralloy Gears. Our diverse mix of professionals enables us to combine new ideas with experienced knowledge to provide out-of-the-box solutions for our customers.
